He looked into Solar Panels several years ago and some things have changed. Below are some of his questions with answers provided directly from Sungevity documents (specifically, the Lease Agreement and the FAQs)
Will I have power during a blackout?
"In the event of a blackout, your inverter will automatically shut down for safety reasons, so you will not have electricity until power is restored to the grid."
[My husband explained, because power is fed back to the grid, this protects the linesman that may be working on the line during a blackout.]
What if my system generates more electricity than I use?
"It's yours! Your excess production belongs to you, and depending on your utility, you
may get a credit for this excess production. During a sunny day, your system
produces a lot of electricity. The additional electricity your system produces flows
back into the grid and runs your meter backwards, earning you credits. Then, when
it's dark, you draw electricity back from the grid."
[That's right folks, your utility company replaces your current meter with one that works with the Solar Panel inverter...and it will run backwards!]
How can I be sure my system will produce enough electricity?
"Sungevity’s Solar Lease guarantees your system will produce enough electricity to
power your home, rain or shine. If your system ever falls short, we’ll reimburse you at
the higher electricity rates when it happens … not the lower rates when you signed on.
(And we put that in writing!)"
[This guarantee is on the first page of the lease agreement]
As usual... Remember to use our referral code (834359) when contacting Sungevity to receive $500 off of your system!!!
